Human Rights Watch said, on Wednesday, that there are militias that have a strict Salafi agenda “that supports Haftar and has obtained military support from the UAE, Jordan and Egypt despite the arms embargo.”
The organization stressed that the UAE has a military air base in the east of the country, supplying Haftar with weapons and ammunition, and its combat planes and drones are carrying out support operations for Haftar militias on the ground.
The organization reported that Haftar’s forces are supported by foreign fighters from Sudan and Chad, Russian fighters working for private security companies, and other Syrian fighters backed by Russia.
It is worth noting that the militias of Haftar includes strict religious militias, including the Adiyat militia and the Tariq bin Ziyad militia, who are fighting with fatwas from abroad describing the army forces as Kharijites.
