UNHCR: More than 48 thousand refugees and 380 thousand displaced as a result of the aggression.

UNHCR has registered more than 48,000 refugees and asylum seekers in Libya, more than 380,000 internally displaced persons, including 200,000 as a result of the aggression since last April, and the release of 231 asylum seekers and refugees.

The head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Jean-Paul Cavalieri, discussed with the American ambassador, Richard Norland, the need for an immediate humanitarian cessation of hostilities, especially since many of the displaced and asylum seekers are greatly affected by the conflict, and that a number of hospitals and health facilities are exposed to attack in light of the Corona pandemic, according to the official page of the American embassy in Libya.

The two parties stressed the importance of preventing any discrimination and stigmatization of refugees and migrants in the midst of the existence of the Corona pandemic, especially as the epidemic afflicts any person and does not differentiate between one nationality and another or race and another, adding that the UNHCR provided cleaning materials, medical equipment and 6 four-wheel drive ambulances to local municipalities and health authorities and the Red Crescent Including the southern cities.

It is worth noting that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced, at the end of last year, that the number of displaced people in Libya was estimated at more than 300,000 as a result of the aggression against Tripoli.
