European Commission spokesman Peter Stano said Wednesday that the process of organizing of the European “Ireni” operation to monitor the arms embargo on Libya, which was launched yesterday, is still in progress.
Stano added: According to the Italian news agency Nova, the first immediate step is to organize the process, and that member states have pledged to implement their obligations regarding ship and employee contributions.
It is worth noting that the representative of the European Union’s high policy, “Josep Borrell,” confirmed, on Wednesday, to Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala, the “IRINI” operation includes monitoring the land borders and airspace of Libya via satellite; so that it is not understood to be directed against the government of reconciliation.
