Since the beginning of the aggression against the capital, the stance of the international community regarding the Libyan crisis have varied. After international silence when Hifter announced his “Alfatah Almoubin” last April, some countries have tended to support Hifter’s aggression publicly with arms, such as France, and others have taken a neutral stance, such as Italy, and the Security Council failed to issue a binding resolution in the first months of aggression.
It was the entry of Russian mercenaries on the battlefield with Hifter that drove the US administration to condemn this interference, followed by the signing of the military agreement between the Government of Accord and Turkey, which turned the scales and made the international community run towards Libya, especially the European countries which hosted a meeting in Berlin on the Libyan crisis, followed by A Security Council “2010” Resolution adopting the Berlin outputs and calling for a permanent cease-fire and a ban on the supply of weapons, but these outputs have not been applied on the ground. The past few days have witnessed a repeated breach of the ceasefire agreement by the Hifter militia, which killed more than 40 civilians during the announced truce.
The matter was further complicated by the failure of the UN envoy, Ghassan Salama, to manage the political dialogue in Geneva, which forced him to submit his resignation, after which the Libyan crisis entered into a vacuum, amid fears of a complete ceasefire collapse, in light of the slowdown in appointing a new mission envoy to succeed Salama who resigned a week ago. .
Waiting for the new envoy
Political analyst Abdullah Al-Kabeer said that the interest of the international community in Libya has declined after Salama’s resignation due to the fact that Salama was moving in an attempt to reach an international consensus that puts the crisis on the path to a solution.
Al-Kabeer added, in a statement to the Arraed, that this will not last long, as the countries of interest will return to the Libyan file as soon as it becomes clear who is the new envoy and what is his vision for the solution?
Al-Kabeer pointed out that all countries now have a concern, which is to insure their citizens from the threat of Corona virus, so at this time they will not pay attention to violations that are taking place outside their borders.
There is no seriousness in the solution
For his part, the author and political analyst Ali Abuzayd believes that the reason the international community did not move in response to Hifter’s recent aggressions, and their delay in appointing a successor to Salama indicates two things, one of which is his lack of commitment to support a political solution, and the other is the lack of priority for solving the Libyan crisis.
Abuzayd added in a statement to Arraed that this confirms that Salama’s resignation was due to his desperation to obtain serious support from the international community to solve the crisis.
