Egyptian sources revealed, Thursday, that Egypt will provide Russian-made tanks in order to support the Hifter militias in their war on the capital.
The sources added to the “Middle East Monitor” news site that these tanks would be granted temporarily until the “end of the battle”, and Hifter should return them after that. The source pointed out that the agreement between Egypt and Hifter was made in this way to avoid collision with the United Nations resolution to prevent the supply of weapons to parties in the conflict in Libya, according to the site.
The sources said that this decision came after Cairo felt that Ankara was serious about direct military intervention in Libya alongside the GNA.
It is worth noting that the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Asisi hinted in a statement on Tuesday of direct intervention in Libya, which was rejected by the GNA, in a statement calling on Egypt to stop supporting the Hifter militias who are turning against legitimacy.
