Suleiman al-Faqih, a member of the house of representatives, said on Tuesday that the memorandum of understanding between Libya and Turkey was long overdue, but it came before it was too late.
Al-Faqih said in a statement to Arraed that this agreement, which contains two economic and security aspects, In its economic part, things have returned to normal and Libya’s maritime rights have been restored, and as it is said that no right is lost where there are demands.
Al-Faqih added that this right was lost because some countries exploited the instability in Libya and the weakness of the governments and legislative councils – they concluded agreements without taking into account the right of the Libyan state.
Regarding the security aspect, Al-Faqih said that the agreement will create a balance in the Libyan situation and limit the negative interference that exceeded all borders after Libya has recently become the scene of several countries’ interventions.
Al-Faqih explained that what made countries far from the Mediterranean basin denounce this agreement, such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, is not material damage, but the fear that the memorandum of understanding will block the road to the return of dictatorship to Libya, and prevent any regime seeking constitutional sovereignty.
It is noteworthy that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Siala confirmed that the memorandum of understanding between Libya and Turkey safeguards the national interest, and the signing is not an infringement on the sovereignty of any state.
