
The State Department said on Tuesday. A US delegation met with Hifter to discuss halting his assault on Tripoli and finding ways of a “political solution” to the Libyan crisis.
In a statement on its official website, the State Department confirmed that US officials expressed “deep concern over Russia’s exploitation of the conflict in Libya at the expense of the Libyan people.” They affirmed their country’s full support for Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The US delegation included Deputy National Security Advisor Victoria Coates, US Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland, First Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Affairs at the US Department of Energy Matthew Zeiss, and Deputy Director of Strategy USAFRICOM Brigadier General Stephen Demiliano.
