Members of the US Senate adopt a project to stabilize Libya and to hold accountable those who fuel conflict

Members of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee have adopted a draft resolution to strengthen US policy in support of a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Libya and develop a strategy to counter Russian influence.

Members of the Democratic and Republican parties introduced on Thursday during thier session a Legislation to support a peaceful resolution of the Libyan conflict and impose sanctions on individuals fueling violence in the country, and provide humanitarian assistance to support the Libyan people and the eventually unified Libyan government, according to the draft.

Senator Chris Murphy of the Democratic Party said that in the absence of continued US engagement, the security vacuum in Libya would continue to provide space for terrorists and extremists.stressing that the United States is committed to achieving peace in the country, and is ready to hold Hiftir or any bad actors seeking to fuel the violence accountable.

It is worth noting that a Libyan American human rights organization confirmed on Sunday that it filed a lawsuit against Khalifa Hiftir, who holds US citizenship on charges of “terrorism and murder” during the recent indiscriminate bombing of Tripoli.
