
The United States called on Friday for the strengthening of the legitimate authority in Libya, the Government of National Accord, and to address the main issues of the conflict in Libya.
In a statement from the State Department following a security dialogue between the United States and the delegation of the Government of National Accord, headed by Interior Minister Fathi Bashaga, in Washington, it called on Hifter’s forces to end their offensive on the capital Tripoli. The US delegation, which the Libyan delegation held talks with, represents a number of US government agencies stressed its support for Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s attempts to exploit the conflict against the will of the Libyan people, according to the statement.
The statement added that the US Government and the government of National Accord have launched a security dialogue between the two countries in Washington, which will facilitate more Libyan-American cooperation to prevent unjustified foreign interference, pointing out that the GNA delegation expressed its deep concerns about the security situation and its impact on the civilian population in Libya.
It is worth noting that a Libyan delegation headed by the Interior Ministers Fathi Pashaga is currently visiting the United States of America, for talks with US officials in Washington.
