Chairman of the Supreme Council of State Khaled Al-Meshri, on Monday, said that the council will not vote on what contravenes the constitutional declaration.
In a press conference, Al-Meshri stated that the recent constitutional amendments made by the House of Representatives have many illegal flaws, pointing out that the HOR did not officially agree with the Supreme Court on the tenth amendment to the constitution referendum law, which would divide Libya into three constituencies.
Al-Meshri explained that the referendum law prepared by the HOR contradicts the constitutional declaration and that it was drafted in such a way that the voters rejected it, so it returns to the House of Representatives to form a new drafting committee to draft a new constitution, he said.
Al-Meshri confirmed the Supreme State’s rejection of Article II of the Eleventh Amendment categorically, because it removed all the bodies of the political agreement.
Al-Meshri pointed out that the Supreme Council of the State adopted the referendum law on 25 December last year, had been voted on in one session, did not reveal any text that contradicts the constitutional declaration, and then it was referred to the House of Representatives for approval, “but the House of Representatives surprised us with a contradictory law to the Constitutional Declaration, “as he put it.
Al-Meshri called for a speedy completion of the referendum on the constitution to put the country to safety and not prolong the crisis.
The Supreme Council of the State called in a statement issued on Monday, the House of Representatives to take his comments on the constitutional amendments made by the HOR to complete the steps to reshape the Presidential Council and to agree on the referendum law to ensure its completion.
