The European Union Denies The Responsibility For The Release Of Frozen Libyan Funds

The spokeswoman for the European External Action Service, “Maja Kocijancic,” denied on Friday any direct responsibility of the European Union for the release of the benefits of frozen Libyan funds.

According to the Russian News Agency, Sputnik, Kocijancic held Belgium the consequences of what the bank “Euroclear” had done, adding that the sanctions imposed on Libya is a decision of the United Nations and that the sanctions committee of the Organization is required to explain the situation towards the management of the frozen Libyan funds.

Belgian newspapers published reports that the benefits of Libyan funds moved from Belgium to Luxembourg, to Britain, and to Bahrain to reach unknown Libyan parties.

Former Belgian treasury director Marc Monbaliu said he had relied on a European opinion to release the benefits of Libyan funds.
