AFRICOM Claims Responsibility For The Air Strike Against Al-Qaeda At Al-Awainat

The United States military command AFRICOM, on Friday, claimed responsibility for the airstrike on Thursday which had targeted Qaeda members near the southern region of Libya, Awainat.

On its official website, the command explained that the operation took place in coordination with the Al-Wefaq government, which resulted in the killing of 11 of Al-Qaeda members and the destruction of three vehicles.

This the third American strike against Al-Qaeda in Libya, in which the last one had been executed on June 13 and led to the killing of a member of the organization.
