Abdul Jalil: We Understand the Demands of the University Staff and We Are committed to Improve their Financial Situation

Education Minister of Al-Wefaq Government Osman Abdul Jalil, on Monday, said that the ministry will communicate with the Ministry of Finance on the authorization of universities to pay the additional allowance and late bonuses to the employees.

During a meeting held with the unions of university staff, on Sunday, Abdul Jalil said that he understood well the difficult living conditions experienced by all workers in the education sector, especially university employees, because of the low salaries they receive and the non-payment of bonuses.

Abdul Jalil added that the ministry will, as a first step, include a member of the union in the committee formed to reformulate the regulation of institutions of higher education and that he will refer the proposed table to increase the salaries of the university staff to the Council of Ministers.

Abdul Jalil stressed his solidarity with university staff in demanding their rights and the ministry’s commitment to the promises made by the ministry to improve the material conditions of all employees, urging university employees to refrain from exaggeration in claiming rights, so as not to harm the rights of students.

University Employees’ Unions have announced their intention to enter into an open strike on November 13 to demand the improvement of their material conditions.
