Italy: Libyans determine election date

Italian Foreign Minister, Enzo Milanesi reiterated his country’s commitment that the Libyan people will determine the when and how to hold general elections in the country.

In a statement quoted by the Italian news agency Aki, Milanesi said that Italy supports the United Nations plan of action for the success of the political process in Libya, which includes holding general elections to be decided by the people under a sound legislative framework and safe conditions.

Libyan parties met in Paris, late last May, and agreed to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in December this year, according to a constitutional framework.
