Navy spokesperson confirms release of journalists detained by Coast Guard

Libyan navy spokesperson, Brigadier General Ayoub Qassem confirmed the release of four Libyan journalists working for two foreign news agencies after being detained for hours by Coast Guard agents.

Qassem in a statement to Arraedlg, attributed the reason for the journalists detention on incoordination and misunderstanding between them and the Coast Guard, noting that they were treated in a humane and respectable manner and handed over all their equipment and personal belongings.

Qassem said that the media and human rights organizations tried to exploit the incident to their interests and challenge state institutions.

The four journalists were detained overnight onTuesday, at Abu Sittah naval base by Coast Guard agents guarding the main entrance of the gate.
