Italy denies intentions to establish a military base in southern Libya

Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Perrone has denied news of his country’s intention to establish a military base or carry out military operations in south of Libya.

The Italian Interior Ministry is leading a program aimed at strengthening Libyan sovereignty and the capabilities of border guards to combat human traffickers and illegal immigration, Perrone said in a tweet on Saturday.

News has been circulating reported Italy’s plan to establish a military base in the south of Libya.
