Italy calls for restraint and protection of civilians in Derna

Italy, on Friday, called for calm and maximum restraint on what it called the “conflict in Derna.”

On its Twitter account, the Italian embassy said it joined the urgent appeal launched by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to protect civilians in Derna.

The embassy said its country was ready to provide humanitarian aid when a safe humanitarian pathway was ensured by the so-called “parties concerned”.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya appealed to all “parties of the conflict” in Derna to exercise restraint, to ensure that precautions are taken to protect civilians, and to abide by international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
