Italian ambassador says Libya managed to “contain terrorism and human trafficking”

Italian Ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Peroni said Libya has managed to contain terrorism and human trafficking by “deep commitment and effective partnerships.”

Taking part in the Lennart Meri Conference in the Estonian capital of Tallinn, Peroni stressed that Europe should be more aware of what is happening on its southern border, noting that the current time in Libya is the time of internal reconciliation by adhering to the United Nation Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) plan of action.

Italy has announced the near end of the immigration crisis from Libya after the decline in the number of arrivals across the Mediterranean in recent months.
