Paris meeting confirms organization of elections on “constitutional basis” in December

Libyan parties meeting in Paris on Tuesday agreed to hold parliamentary and presidential elections on a constitutional basis on December 10.

The final statement of the Paris Conference stressed the proposal for a timetable for the adoption of the constitution, the need to end parallel bodies and the unification of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) as stipulated in the political agreement.

The statement also stressed the commitment with the United Nations support to build professional and accountable military and security institutions, and to encourage the dialogue happening in Cairo in particular, with the commitment of the Libyan security forces to protect the elections and citizen’s right to self-determination.

The participants committed themselves to agreeing to participate in a comprehensive political conference to follow up on the implementation of what had been agreed upon under the auspices of the United Nations.

The Libyan parties meeting in Paris are the head of the Presidential Council (PC), Faiz Al-Sarraj, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HOR), Aqila Saleh, and the President of the High Council of State (HCS), Khaled Al-Mashri and the Commander of Operation Dignity Forces, Khalifa Haftar.
