The Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Perrone said the illegal immigration agreement with the Government of National Accord (GNA) is not intended to settle migrants in the south, but to proceed in parallel lines, developing the south and combating illegal immigration.
During his meeting with the president of the High Council of State (HCS) Khaled Al-Mashri on Monday, Perrone reiterated Italy’s commitment to support the stability and economic and cultural relations between the two countries.
The GNA agreed in January last year with the Italian government to activate the treaty signed with Libya in 2008 on illegal immigration.
