Arab foreign ministers express support for PC

The Arab foreign ministers affirmed their commitment to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya, their rejection of foreign intervention of any kind and their support for the efforts and measures taken by the Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA) to maintain security, the sovereignty of the state and the preservation of its resources and capabilities.

In a resolution entitled “Developments in the situation in Libya” issued at the end of the 149th regular session of the Arab League Council on Wednesday evening, the Arab foreign ministers called for a comprehensive political solution to the crisis in Libya and stressed their support for the implementation of the Libyan political agreement signed in the city of Skhirat on 17 December 2015.

In their resolution, the ministers renewed their support for the United Nations Plan of Action presented by the UN special envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame to resolve the crisis in Libya and to complete the transitional phase through political, constitutional and electoral entitlements within the framework of the implementation of the Libyan political agreement.

The Council welcomed the meetings hosted by Egypt to discuss the unification of the military establishment and affirmed encouragement to unify the Libyan forces under the civilian leadership of the PC to ensure the restoration of stability and peace to Libya.

The Arab foreign ministers held a preliminary meeting in preparation for the Arab summit to be held in the Saudi capital Riyadh later this month.
