The head of the Russian contact group on the intra-Libyan settlement, Lev Dengov said the leader of the Operation Dignity, Khalifa Haftar, requested the establishment of a Russian military base in Libya.
Dengov stressed in an interview with the Egyptian newspaper Al-Yaoum Al-Saba on Saturday that his country respects the international restrictions imposed on Libya and works within the framework of the arms embargo and helps with “efficiency” to make the political settlement process a success.
The Russian envoy to Libya confirmed that the head of the Presidential Council (PC), Faiz al-Sarraj, on the one hand, and the commander of Operation Dignity, Khalifa Haftar on the other, have repeatedly requested the resumption of contracts concluded under Gaddafi, according to the newspaper.
The head of the Russian contact group on the intra-Libyan settlement also said that his country is not interested in a military solution to the Libyan crisis, and supports the efforts of UN envoy, Ghassan Salame in the implementation of Al-Skhirat agreement.
The last visit of commander of Operation Dignity, Khalifa Haftar to Russia was in August 2017.
