GNA Ministry of Justice signs a memorandum of understanding with the EU

The Ministry of Justice of the Government of National Accord (GNA) signed a Memorandum of understanding with EU Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM).

In a press statement on Wednesday, the ministry outlined the objectives of the memorandum, notably: “Developing criminal justice” in Libya, building the capacity of members of the judicial system, supporting judicial bodies, and supporting members of the judicial police through a training program.

The Minister of Justice, Mohamed Abdul Wahed, said the purpose of this memorandum is to benefit from the expertise of the European Union, noting that support for judicial expertise and prison administration will be technically, logistically and institutionally, according to the statement.

EU Ambassador to Libya, Bettina Muscheidt described the memorandum as a “positive and important” step in cooperation between the EU and Libya.

The Minister of Justice, the head of the EU Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM), the Ambassador of the European Union to Libya, and the head of the judicial police, attended the signing of the memorandum of understanding.
