Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit affirmed that there is no alternative to a political agreement led by the United Nations as the basis for any consensus course in Libya.
During his meeting with President Fayez Al-Sarraj in Egypt, Aboul Gheit hailed Al-Sarraj’s efforts to achieve security, stability and reunification in Libya, stressing the Arab League’s commitment to supporting all efforts to make the political process in Libya a success.
Al-Sarraj briefed Aboul Gheit on the initiative of the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, and the difficulties that he faces, in addition to his plans for the holding presidential and parliamentary elections next year.
Al-Sarraj arrived in Egypt on Sunday and met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri. The two sides discussed several issues concerning the two countries.
