Electoral Commission announces the start of the voter registration process

On Wednesday, the Electoral Commission announced the start of voter registration and the modernization of the electoral register.

In a press conference the head of the Electoral Commission, Emad Al-Sayeh said that the voter registration process started under Law No. (8) of 2013 for the establishment of the Higher National Electoral Commission, and based on the decision of the Council of Commission No. (58).

Al-Sayeh explained that the process of registration of voters will last for 60 days and can be extended. He added that registration of the Libyan communities abroad is scheduled for February 1st of next year, with the registration being fully updated.

This announcement was made in the presence of Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ghassan Salame, and his deputy.

It is noteworthy that the last elections held in Libya was the 2004 election for the House of Representatives. Preceding it was the election of the General National Congress in 2012.
