Fayez Al-Sarraj and Corker discuss political and security developments in Libya and the migration file

During his visit to Washington President of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, discussed with the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Republican Sen. Bob Corker and his deputy, Senator Ben Cardin, the political developments and the security situation in Libya. The two sides stressed that Libya is not isolated from the outside world  in light of the recent negative  impressions  from some countries fueling the conflict.

Al-Sarraj explained  the  negative impact  of the Libyan crisis on the security and the economy, and referred to the issue of illegal immigration and the position of the GNA. He pointed out that Libya is a victim of the illegal migration and is not a source of it, and that addressing the issue  requires measures that are currently not possible. They also discussed the investigations into the allegations of human trafficking, and the need to prosecute  smuggling networks and perpetrators wherever they may be.

Senator Corker welcomed the efforts made by the GNA in the war on terror. He expressed his satisfaction with the American administration’s interest in visiting Al-Sarraj and his delegation and its support for the National Accord Government.
