The director of the General Directorate for Coast Security, Colonel Tariq Shanbour, said it was not his department’s responsibility to retrieve the bodies of migrants from the mainland; adding that their work is confined to the sea.
In a press statement on Tuesday, Shanbour explained that the exhumation of the bodies from the land is the responsibility of the Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority, the Security Directorate, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Red Crescent of the Ministry of Health.
In turn, the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency released a statement on Monday saying that it is not specialized in retrieving bodies from the sea or land; instead, they pointed out their readiness to provide a study and develop strategic plans to reduce the phenomenon of illegal migration by sea.
The National Commission for Human Rights also issued a statement on Saturday condemned the fact that the bodies of illegal immigrants have yet to be removed from the shores of the city of Khoms.
