In a video statement on Thursday, 22 municipalities from Libya’s western region confirmed their support of the Libyan political agreement that brought about the formation of the Government of National Accord (GNA).
“We confirm that there is no choice only to establish rule based on logic and negotiations and the prioritization of the country and its citizens above all else,” said a spokesperson for the 22 municipalities.
The statement comes a day after a meeting was held in Tripoli between the presidential council, state council, army officers, and the Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj.
At the meeting, Sarraj commented on the attempted coup by the the General National Congress (GNC) promising to act towards “dealing with the incident wisely to avoid bloodshed.”
Sarraj also said that he has sought the support of foreign countries to assist the Libyan army by offering equipment and training.
On Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeq met with the UN’s Support Mission to Libya’s security advisor Paolo Serra in Tripoli to discuss the training of the Presidential Guard among other things.
