Forces loyal to the Libyan unity government backed by the UN say they are close to liberating Sirte from ISIS fighters.

The Government of National Accord (GNA) forces said they have captured the city’s main mosque as well as a jail that was operated by ISIS’s ‘morality police’.

One of the shops had a sign that said women who are unaccompanied are not allowed in the store.

Libyan soldiers have been able to make significant advances since the beginning of this month after the US began an airstrike campaign against ISIS in support of the GNA.

Dozens of ISIS fighters were found dead in the areas recently liberated by the Libyan forces, however, when exactly the fighters were killed is unknown, said a spokesperson for the Libyan forces.
