The Political Dialogue Forum fails to agree on the constitutional base.

On Thursday, the political dialogue sessions of the members of the Dialogue Forum that took place via video communication were concluded with the aim of reaching a consensus on the constitutional basis for the elections next December without reaching any results other than confirming the necessity of holding the elections on time.

Representatives must take responsibility

The UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, during his speech at the end of today’s session, stressed the need for Parliament to assume the responsibility for enacting the necessary legislation, to lay down the constitutional base, in consultation with the Supreme Council of the State, no later than June 15th

The president is elected directly by the people

Member of the Justice and Construction Party, Mansour Al-Hasadi, said during his speech at the forum that electing the president directly from the people is considered the most appropriate democratically, because it will return the decision to the people, calling on all members of the forum to make concessions for the sake of Libya.

Al-Hasadi explained that the main dispute over the constitutional base lies in the election of the president from the people or through parliament, indicating that there are unclear points in the constitutional base, such as constitutional institutions and local government.

Coup on air

For her part, a member of the Forum, Zahra Lanqi, said that they had agreed on a roadmap in which they provided for presidential and parliamentary elections, but some parties carried out a coup, live on the air, on the roadmap that was brought about by a national and international track.

In the same context, Hussein Al-Ansari, a member of the Dialogue Forum, said that the demands of Berbers and Tebu must be listened to, adding, “We have to go to the referendum while fulfilling the completion of the elections on time on December 24.”

As for forum member Musa Faraj, he believes that there is no dispute at all regarding the date of the elections. Also, there is no person or party to oppose this, but the difference is only in some details, whether holding elections on a constitution brought by referendum or a constitutional base.
