France Gives GNA Its Full Support

(Author: Libyan Gazette Editorial Staff)

France will be providing the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) with its full support in its fight to combat militants.

“There are still some terrorist groups in Libya which must be hunted down and neutralized,” said President Francois Hollande after meeting the Libyan Prime Minister Fayaz Al-Sarraj on Tuesday in Paris.

Hollande did not give any further details regarding the support his country will be offering Libya.

Libya has fallen into a state of instability and chaos since the 2011 uprising that brought the downfall of the Gaddafi regime, and is now divided between two rival authorities.

The House of Representatives (HoR), the parliament based in eastern Libya, gave the GNA a vote of no confidence last month.

The French President said that he trusts Sarraj to include “all parties” in his Cabinet in the hopes of persuading the parliament to give its support to the GNA.
