Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj, of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), along with Libyan ministers visited Sirte on Wednesday to honour the efforts of the many who have sacrificed so much to rid Sirte of ISIS.
This was the Prime Minister’s first visit to Sirte since the offensive against ISIS took place in May.
The GNA have announced that they are at the final stage of battle against ISIS and anticipate by securing key areas that they will be able to to liberate Sirte in a short number of days.
Al Sarraj stopped to visit the infamous Ouagadougou Conference Centre. A symbolic building where Gaddafi declared himself as the king of Africa and more recently, where ISIS held their meetings and propagated their latest laws.
Al-Sarraj was briefed by field commanders regarding the troops progress and their latest mission was to eliminate ISIS from district Number Three, a post said on the GNA’s Facebook page.
Reda Issa, a spokesperson for the GNA’s forces, said, “we expect the situation to be resolved in a very short time.”
In Sirte, Al-Sarraj released a statement that echoed Issa optimism. In it he said, “we will continue to chase, with the help of God, the Daesh (ISIS) remnants and strike them wherever they may be in our country.”
