Intense clashes have been reported today between the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) forces and, the so called, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Sirte, the Libyan coastal city.
Clashes have especially intensified on the eastern front and the front at the neighbourhood known as 700 according to the Albinyan Almarsous update on their official facebook page.
GNA forces were able to take control of ISIS’s barricades, a major push forward in the fight to empty Sirte of terrorists.
On Tuesday, in the 700 neighbourhood in Sirte GNA forces were able to eliminate a group of ISIS fighters responsible for surveying the area. Four foreigners and one Libyan were killed from ISIS during the operation. GNA forces had no casualties in Tuesday’s battle.
As battles were ongoing explosive experts are working to dismantle bombs that ISIS had left behind.
