The Libyan Army announced that the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG), who are allied with the Government of National Accord (GNA), have taken control of Nawfiliya in eastern Libya from ISIS militants.

The PFG forces are fighting ISIS on behalf of the GNA in the east and captured the town of Ben Jawad on Monday after heavy clashes with ISIS militants resulted in the death of five PFG fighters.

Ali al-Hassi, a spokesman for the PFG, said that there were “no casualties in our forces as we controlled Al-Naufileya,” which is around 130 kilometres east of ISIS stronghold Sirte.

The media bureau for Operation Strong Foundation (Albinyan Almarsous) said that on Tuesday the air force carried out 8 raids on ISIS targets in Wadi Jarrif and Gate 30 from the army’s frontline in the west, successfully destroying an ISIS convoy.

On Tuesday, the Libyan army announced that they had established a new operations room in the area between Ajdabiya and Sirte to facilitate the military campaign against ISIS in the east, including the oil terminals Ras Lanuf and Es Sider.
