Dbaiba hints at not handing over power to the new government.

As soon as the elections failed to take place on the 24th of last December, attention turned to the issue of changing the government, which several parties, including the HoR, believed that its term had expired with the end of the specified date approved by the road map in Geneva, and Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbaiba pledged at the time to abide by it.

While the parliament is actually preparing for the steps and procedures to choose a new prime minister on the basis of a new roadmap in consultation with the State Council, the prime minister hinted not to hand over power to the new expected government, considering that what the parliament is doing is a desperate attempt to restore division in the country.

Parliament sets the date for the election of the Prime Minister

Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh announced during Monday’s session in Tobruk that they had chosen the 8th of next February as the date for choosing a new prime minister, provided that the 7th of February session was devoted to listening to the candidates.

Continuing until the election

Abdul Hamid Dbaiba said in a statement to Al Jazeera that what the Speaker of Parliament is doing is a desperate attempt to restore division.

Dbaiba added that they have contacted most international parties, and they reject the parliament speaker’s conception of the transitional phase, stressing that the government will continue to perform its duties until the completion of the elections.

12 conditions for running for prime minister

The process of changing the government by the Parliament had begun some time ago. On January 25, during its session, the Parliament approved 12 conditions to run for the position of prime minister in the next government, most notably the pledge of the candidate for the position not to run for the next elections.

The Council also affirmed that consultations with the State Council are continuing in order to achieve political consensus and reach presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

Changing the government belongs to Parliament

For her part, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephanie Williams, considered on January 26 that the issue of changing the current government is a sovereign matter to be discussed under the dome of Parliament.

During an interview with Al-Wasat TV, “Williams” considered that the Parliament should give priority to the electoral project, and set a date for elections or a clear consensual process.

The roadmap is prepared in consultation with the State Council

As for the member of the Supreme Council of State, Saad bin Sharada, he confirmed that Parliament is preparing a road map in consultation with the Supreme Council of State, and that the main axis of the road map is the constitutional path.

Ben Sherada added, in a press statement, on January 30, that the current government has expired according to the road map, and was unable to complete the elections and failed to unify the institutions, especially the security institutions.
