On Thursday, the UN Adviser in Libya, Stephanie Williams, stressed the importance of the Roadmap Committee following a pragmatic and time-limited approach, taking into account the need to maintain momentum for elections, and respecting the commitment to the 2.8 million registered voters in Libya.
In her tweets, Williams added that she had held a meeting with the Road Map Committee in the House of Representatives in Tripoli, and commended the committee for the diversity of its members and the spirit of unity that it possesses.
Williams noted that she offered the support of the United Nations in any efforts that would help bring the Libyans together to end the long transitional period, adding that the committee outlined its plan to meet within a short period with a number of different groups and parties across Libya to discuss the constitutional path.
It is worth noting that the Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Antonio Guterres,” appointed the American diplomat and former deputy UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salama “Stephanie Williams” as a special advisor on Libyan affairs to lead efforts to support the holding of the presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya that were scheduled to take place but were postponed to an unknown date.
