Borrell calls on the Libyan authorities to set a quick timetable for the presidential and legislative elections.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Joseph Borrell, on Friday called on the Libyan authorities to urgently put in place a clear plan and timetable, to hold inclusive, free, fair and credible presidential and legislative elections as soon as possible.

Borrell said – in a statement on the official Union page – that it was planned Friday that the Libyans would go to the polls; To decide their future through elections.

The High Representative added that the elections will provide a clear opportunity to build a stable and prosperous future and will allow the transfer of power to democratically elected institutions, ending the current transition peacefully and progressing towards security and political stability.

Representative Borrell stressed that the European Union fully supports the mediation carried out by the Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephanie Williams, and the work of the UN mission, as they are fully prepared to continue working with UN and support the Libyan authorities to prepare for the electoral process.

It is worth noting that the Libyan presidential elections were scheduled to be held Friday, on December 24, according to the road map laid down at the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.
