The former United Nations envoy to Libya, Stephanie Williams, confirmed on Saturday that Libya is a priority for the US administration headed by President Biden.
During her speech in a panel discussion within the activities of the Mediterranean Forum in Rome, Williams said that the participation of Vice President Kamala Harris in this forum and the appointment of the US ambassador to Libya as a special envoy of the United States to Libya prove that Libya is one of the priorities of the current US administration.
The former envoy stated that she does not believe that there are shortcomings in the American leadership on the Libyan file, noting that her country, like other countries, supports the elections on December 24.
Williams pointed out that “Libya has suffered from a crisis of legitimacy that can only be resolved through a free and fair electoral process,” referring to the statement of US Secretary of State, “Anthony Blinken,” in which he stressed that these elections should be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
It is worth noting that the American magazine Foreign Policy, quoting diplomats, said that United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is considering the possibility of appointing American diplomat Stephanie Williams as an envoy to Libya, to succeed Jan Kubis, whose term expires on December 10.
