Will the Libyans re-elect members of the former presidential council and the former Parliament in the upcoming elections?

Coinciding with the opening of the door for candidacy for the presidential and legislative elections scheduled to be held next December, several formerly responsible personalities have run for the next House of Representatives. Will these personalities have a better chance of the voters’ votes to reach the new Legislative Council, or will people’s awareness be an obstacle in their way?

Former Officials

Among those who wish to run in the legislative elections are members of the Presidential Council of the former Government of National Accord, and they are Ahmed Hamza, Ali al-Qatrani and Muhammad al-Ammari Zayed, in addition to members of the current House of Representatives, namely Khalifa al-Daghari, Badr al-Naheeb, Muhammad al-Raid and others.

Polarization and violence

The return of these figures, who were known for severe political polarization and violent rhetoric, may result in the return of the previous scene with all its tragedies, the most prominent of these figures is a member of the boycott Presidential Council Ali al-Qatrani, who is known for his closeness to Khalifa Haftar, as he repeatedly tried to impede the work of the Government of National Accord by boycotting its sessions so that it could not take action. Decisions due to lack of quorum

Also among the controversial figures is Member of Parliament Badr Al-Naheeb, who appeared in one of the videos in 2018 asking officials in Russia to intervene militarily against his countrymen due to a political dispute!

negative image

All of these practices by members of the former presidency or members of the current House of Representatives elected in 2014, and whose sessions are hardly empty without a fist fight and insults among its members, except for the images and clips attributed to some representatives of public morals, all of which may have formed a negative image when The general electorate may be an obstacle to renewal for such people

Low turnout

On the other hand, the low turnout at the polls and the wide participation in the upcoming elections will make it easier for such people to return to the scene again, which puts the national movements in front of the responsibility of educating people about their right to choose who represents them and bear the consequences of their choices

fresh blood

By following the prevailing movement now and the announcement by many academic, human rights and politically active personalities of their candidacy for the current elections, this will represent an opportunity for these new faces to tip the scales and block the way for the return of those representatives who request the renewal of their mandate to the parliament again, and it may be strong because of the great support they have as we see.
