The European Parliament has adopted a resolution imposing sanctions on the Russian “Wagner” group and its affiliates, including an asset freeze and a travel ban.
During its session, Thursday, Parliament indicated that Wagner was involved in many conflicts around the world in Ukraine, Syria, Sudan, Mozambique, Libya, Central Africa and Venezuela.
The statement stated that the activities of the “Wagner” are consistent with Russia’s expansion of its sphere of influence, because it is highly likely that Moscow will be responsible for the financing, training, management and operational command of the paramilitary group.
The Parliament called on the European Commission not to allocate funds to the countries that employ the Russian group, urging all countries that resort to dealing with it, especially the Central African Republic, to sever all relations with the group and its employees.
It is noteworthy that the commander of the militias attacking Tripoli, Khalifa Haftar, used the Russian Wagner mercenaries during his aggression on Tripoli in April 2019, and they are still stationed at the Al-Jufra base and Al-Qordabiya base in Sirte.
