Electoral Commission: Receiving of candidacy applications does not mean acceptance.

The HNEC said that the candidacy applications attached to the documents related to the legal requirements received by the commission do not necessarily mean that the candidate’s application has been accepted, but rather it is only a process of receiving the application.

The commission added – according to its official website – that the request received will be forwarded to the public administration; To verify that all the required documents are completed, and then some of them are referred to the competent authorities to consider their validity or not. After completing the verification and scrutiny of the candidates’ applications and completing the responses of the relevant authorities, the preliminary lists will be published.

The Commission indicated that the preliminary lists include the names of the candidates who fulfilled all the conditions and the supporting documents; To open the door for appeals and to initiate consideration of them by the primary appeals committees, and to appeal to the relevant courts, and this stage lasts 12 days.

The Commission concluded by clarifying that when the appeals stage is completed and decided upon, it will publish the final lists, which are the applications that have passed the litigation and appeals stage, and include the names of the approved candidates on the ballot paper that will be handed over to the voter on the day of polling; for the purpose of voting.
