US sanctions against a Libyan implicated in human rights violations.

The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced imposing sanctions on Libyan citizen Osama al-Koni, who is responsible for “gross human rights violations” against migrants in Libya, according to the Department’s official website.

According to the Department’s statement, Al-Koni was involved in targeting civilians through his participation in committing acts of violence, kidnapping, forced displacement, and targeting sites where civilians seek refuge.

The ministry statement indicated that al-Koni was identified as the real director of al-Nasr prison in al-Zawiya, which bears the name “Osama Prison,” according to the statement.

In its statement, the Department indicated that Al-Koni is responsible for the systematic exploitation of migrants detained in his center, and that refugees there are subjected to various human rights violations, whether in terms of physical or sexual abuses, extortion, or deprivation of food and drink.
