Le Monde: Macron’s wrong policies in Libya contributed to destroying the political process.

The French newspaper “Le Monde” said that French President Macron’s blindness towards the Maghreb regions is caused by his wrong policy in Libya by his support for the coup leader Khalifa Haftar.

The newspaper added, according to an article by Middle East studies expert, Jean-Pierre Filiu, that Macron, who willingly supports peace and reconciliation efforts in Libya, was one of the main parties that contributed to torpedoing the political process in the country through UN mediation.

Le Monde stressed that France had provided decisive support to Haftar, which made him turn against the legitimate government and launch an attack on the capital, Tripoli, in 2019, bringing the country back to the furnace of war and fragmentation.

In the same article, the French newspaper mentioned that France’s support for the warlord Haftar only made it join the camp of sponsors of the coup and their supporters Russia, the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, but this support from all these parties did not enable Haftar to gain control of the country, but rather pushed the legitimate government to conclude an international agreement with Turkey, which helped In protecting the capital, Tripoli, from Russian mercenaries, according to Le Monde.

And Le Monde added that the Ruler of the Emirates had been humiliated by the defeat of his protégé in Libya, Khalifa Haftar, according to the newspaper’s description, explaining that the former had deliberately taken revenge on Libya’s neighboring countries by thwarting democratic life in Tunisia.
