The UN mission calls on the “State Council”and the “Parliament” to complete the legislative framework for the upcoming elections

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya called on the Supreme Council of State and Parliament to complete the legislative framework for the upcoming elections, scheduled for December 24.

The mission urged, in a statement, coinciding with the holding of the consultative meeting in Morocco on Friday, the two delegations to seize this opportunity and assume their historical responsibilities, and proceed with completing the legislative framework for the elections, noting that this meeting provides an opportunity for further consultations on the legal framework for elections.

The mission said that this meeting involves a team affiliated with it to provide technical support and advice based on the principles of the United Nations, in line with the mission’s mandate to support the holding of the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections.

It is worth noting that the US Ambassador to Tripoli, Richard Norland, said in statements, after the opening session of the meeting in Rabat, that there is a need for a constitutional and legal basis in order to provide the conditions for launching the electoral campaign in Libya, and the consultative meeting is scheduled to discuss the Libyan electoral law, with The presidential and parliamentary elections are approaching on December 24.
