The head of the High National Elections Commission, Imad al-Sayeh, said that any change affecting the Commission’s Board would confuse the plans that were drawn up to implement the upcoming elections entitlements, pointing out that the law establishing the Commission stipulates that the Commission’s Board is responsible for setting strategies and formulating policies.
Al-Sayeh confirmed, in a statement to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Tuesday, that the current council has put all requirements into effect, and that any change to this council hinders the continuation of its implementation, indicating that the commission has set the beginning of July as a maximum to start the process of implementing the December 24 elections, and that any delay in this The date will lead to confusion about its plans towards the scheduled date, and it will lead to a reconsideration of the plan developed for this purpose.
Al-Sayeh indicated the Commission’s keenness to ensure that the law, which will be issued soon, takes into account the prevailing security environment and addresses contentious issues that may cause violence and breaches of the electoral process, pointing out that security conditions are not a new factor in the Libyan elections that were carried out in the past.
It is worth noting that the Legal Committee of the Political Dialogue Forum has finished drafting the constitutional base on which the upcoming elections will be based, and the UN Special Envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, delivered it to the members of the Forum, and invited them to attend a session on 26/27 of May to discuss it.
