On Wednesday, Turkish President Rejep Tayyip Erdogan called on the UN Security Council to intervene and send clear messages to Israel. To stop attacks on Palestinians before the crisis worsens further.
During a phone call with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Erdogan said that Turkey had expressed its response in the strongest way to the reckless Israeli attacks against the Gaza Strip, Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinians.
Erdogan stressed the need for the international community to teach Israel a strong and deterrent lesson, and that his country continues its initiatives at various levels to achieve this goal, noting the need to study the idea of sending international forces to the region in order to protect Palestinian civilians.
Erdogan explained to Putin that showing the consensus between Turkey and Russia regarding the recent developments in Al Quds constitutes an important message, expressing his belief that Turkey and Russia will cooperate closely in the United Nations on all these issues.
Erdogan pointed to the importance of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement, which referred to the United Nations standards and the two-state solution regarding Palestine.
It is worth noting that the tensions between the Israeli and Palestinian sides began in Al Quds with the beginning of the month of Ramadan nearly four weeks ago, when Palestinian youths protested against Israeli measures in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and settlers storming its courtyards, which sparked violent confrontations with the Israeli police that resulted in hundreds of injuries among Palestinians.
