Hawili: It is better for the president to be elected directly.

A member of the legal committee emanating from the Political Dialogue Committee, Abdul Qadir Hawili, said, in a statement to Al-Raed Saturday, that it is better to elect the president directly from the people so that he has the power, and he can act and dissolve parliament, and provide powers according to his capacity in the constitution.

Hawili explained that the constitutional base must stipulate the president’s powers precisely, and the conditions for candidacy should be clear in the election and powers law, explaining that we do not want to create a “dictator” without a constitution.

Hawili added that the constitutional base must be strong and have controls. To make the president work within his limited framework, and not be a “dictator” indicating the need for the country to have a constitution and constitutional institutions.

It is reported that the legal committee emanating from the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum concluded, on Saturday, its direct meeting, which lasted three days in Tunis, to complete the discussions on the constitutional basis needed for national elections.
