Khalifa Haftar:
While Haftar placed the capabilities of what he called the “Libyan Arab Armed Forces” with Egypt and its president, Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, to defend its water security.
Haftar explained, during his meeting with Al Sisi, that Egypt has the right to defend its legitimate rights to maintain its water and economic security, and that he will support it in that.
The Al Nahda Dam, which Ethiopia is building, poses a threat to the shares of Egypt and Sudan from the Nile River, and it is a dam on the Blue Nile in Ethiopia that has been under construction since 2011, and the main purpose of the construction of the dam is to generate electricity, to make up for the energy shortage in Ethiopia.
The filling of the reservoir began in July 2020, and it is expected that the reservoir will take between 5 and 15 years to complete, and the threats to fill the dam will cause millions of cubic meters of water to be taken from Egypt and Sudan.
These statements coincide at the same time, and Haftar has bypassed the Presidency Council in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army, according to the political agreement signed in Geneva.
