The security situation in Benghazi is getting worse day by day, as there have been many recent acts of kidnapping, killing, assassination and armed incursions by Haftar’s militias into a number of inhabited homes, which made many residents of the region to protest and demand an end to these acts and demand the national unity government, as a government for all the country, to carry out its tasks in making the City safe.
Kidnapping and assassination
The Libyan Crime Watch Organization monitored the kidnapping of Hanin Al-Abdali, the daughter of lawyer Hanan Al-Barasi, from Dubai Street in central Benghazi by gunmen and taking her to an unknown location.
The organization added on its Facebook page that Hanin was kidnapped hours after she appeared in a live broadcast on her Facebook page, during which she mentioned those involved in the murder of her mother.
The so-called General Command of Haftar mourned on the 24th of this March, Mahmoud Al-Werfalli, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, after his assassination by unknown persons, with bullets inside his car in central Benghazi.
Break into homes
On the other hand, media sources reported the death of a child affected by his wounds on Friday and the injury of 4 members of the same family with varying wounds, as a result of an armed group storming a resort in Benghazi.
These sources indicated that among the injured was a 5-year-old girl in critical condition, and another two-year-old child was shot in the leg, in addition to the injury of the wife who aborted her 7-month fetus, as a result of the accident.
Corpses lying in the streets
During the past weeks, Benghazi has lived in a state of fear and panic resulting from the deteriorating security situation, following the discovery of a number of bodies dumped on the roads.
On March 19, the Libyan Red Crescent transferred two unidentified bodies, with handcuffed behind their back, with bullet marks in the head, to the Benghazi Medical Center, after finding them on the seashore west of the city.
In the same context, on the 18th of this March, 8 unidentified bodies were found bound and bore traces of bullets in the Hawari area in Benghazi , and they were transferred by the 155th Battalion to the Benghazi Medical Center amid secrecy and security restrictions.
Local protest
The sheikhs and notables of Barqa, meeting in Seluq area south of Benghazi on March 16th, called on the United Nations and the International Criminal Court to investigate the cases of murder and kidnapping that took place in Benghazi, such as the case of the assassination of one of the sheikhs of Al-Awaqir, “Abraik Al-Lawati,” and the kidnapping of parliamentarian, “Siham Serqiwa.”
The meeting the so-called Al-Abyar Forum for the notables of the Eastern Province demanded on the 15th of this March to reveal the secret prisons, the fate of the kidnapped, punish the kidnappers, and remove all the brigades and armed formations from Benghazi.
A number of Al-Awaqir tribe members complained in a video statement about the deteriorating security situation in the city and what they described as “the violation of the sanctities,” by storming homes late at night by Haftar’s militias, warning of their impatience with the actions of these militias.
