Al-Sunni: Belgium seeks to seize 49 million euros of frozen Libyan funds.

The permanent representative of Libya to the United Nations, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, said that the government of Belgium addressed the UN Security Council sanctions committee to seize 49 million euros of frozen Libyan funds.

Al-Sunni confirmed – through a tweet on his Twitter account – on Saturday, that, in coordination with the Investment Corporation, they informed the Security Council of their rejection of this act, warning the state of Belgium against seizing Libya’s sovereign wealth, affirming the support of several countries for their position.

It is worth noting that, on January 14, the Belgian Finance Minister, Vincent Peteghem, informed the United Nations Sanctions Committee to lift the freeze on part of the Libyan bank assets frozen in Belgium, to deduct debts on the Libyan state estimated at 47 million euros, according to the Belgian newspaper Le Soir.
